computer and network technician salary

Computer Network Technician Salary Information

National salaries for most network technicians range from $34,000 to $75,000 in May 2021, according to PayScale.com, excluding bonuses. The median annual wage was $48,312 at that time.

Network Technician Career Information

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), network technicians are qualified to work in a variety of industries, including computer systems design, telecommunications companies, schools, hospitals, and government agencies. The BLS also reports that job prospects should be good in any industry, with computer support specialist jobs projected to increase by 8% from 2019 to 2029.

Most companies require experienced technicians to be familiar with the different types and providers of networks. Formal education, either as a bachelor's or associate's degree program in computer science or information systems, may be required for advanced positions. Technicians in entry-level positions may receive on-the-job training. The BLS reports the average duration for such training is approximately three months. The day-to-day duties of a computer network technician often include:

Installing and configuring Internet networks and systems

Perform routine network maintenance

Troubleshoot network or server problems

Helping clients or customers

Computer Network Certification Exam

For some employers certification is mandatory. There are many specialized and specialized certification exams offered by network vendors, such as Cisco, Microsoft and Novell for technicians at an early or advanced stage in their career.

A more common and highly respected exam is the CompTIA A+ certification offered by the non-profit organization CompTIA. To be certified, network technicians must pass two exams that test essential networking knowledge and practical troubleshooting. CompTIA recommends that test takers have at least 500 hours of experience in the industry.

Computer network technicians perform most of the maintenance and troubleshooting tasks to keep computer systems running and to keep users happy. The median salary for this career field is just over $48,000 in May 2021, per PayScale.com, and the BLS projects a faster-than-average rate of job growth over the 2019-2029 decade. After obtaining post-secondary education, most individuals need to be certified throughout their careers to stay abreast of new skills and technologies.

a lan network

Networks refer to the set of devices (terminals) that are connected by a communication link. An interface can be a computer, printer, or any other device that can send and / or receive data from other devices developed over the network.

Networks are divided into three types such as Local Area Network (LAN), Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN). And in this article, we will cover all aspects of a local area network (LAN).

Local Area Network (LAN)

A local network is a computer network that connects a computer into a restricted area such as a school, college or university.

A local network is a private network, commonly called a LAN. They provide a useful way to share equipment among end users. Resources such as printers, file servers, browsers and the Internet are easily compromised among other computers connected to the network.

What is a LAN?

To start this article, let's start with what is a LAN? A LAN indicates a local area network and is a computer network that connects computers in a specific area, such as homes, universities, offices, office buildings, laboratories, and almost any place with a variety of computers nearby. LANs are critical to computer networks, and almost every computer you use is connected to another device in some way. Not only are there small network connections, but they can vary in size. What about large tracts of land, say large corporations and governments? We call this broadband networks.

The beginning of the local area network (LAN) began in the 1970s with the growing need for fast computer interconnections in universities and laboratories. With the introduction of Ethernet by Xerox in 1973-1974, the LAN soon went on a run. The first introduction of the LAN is a major use case with the 1977 installation at Chase Bank in New York City.

Now that you have a little introduction and background for the LAN, let's take a look at how the LAN actually works?

What products are on the LAN?

Whether you are at home or at work, you will probably be separated by some sort of LAN. The simplest way to set up a local area network (LAN) is to use an Ethernet cable. How about a LAN cable? This is where the customer's question arises. A LAN cable is similarly referred to as Ethernet or network cables. So when you buy a LAN cable and come across an Ethernet or network cable, you'll be fine. A LAN channel is therefore by definition a cable that connects computers, network switches and then from a switch to a router, modem or DSL that provides internet from an ISP. These devices form a LAN (local area network) when connected to a wireless LAN, Ethernet, or network cable.

components of lan network

Only the smallest companies can be managed without a computer. When you even have a few computers, you’ll probably want to network them. A local area network or LAN converts individual computers into a common work environment, much like a joint project transforms an individual employee into a group. A LAN can include thousands of computers or just a few, but all LANs are made up of the same basic handful of components.

For users, the network means only the software they are actually dealing with, whether it is a word processor, accounting software or some state-of-the-art custom program. Underneath that work will work, you’ll find a network-aware operating system, drivers that help computers talk to network hardware, and all the specialized code that manages communication between devices. These are the software components of the network.

Network workstations

The essence of a LAN is that users collaborate together or at least share network resources, so all of these users must have a way to access the network. This is done through individual computers or workstations that are connected together and form a LAN. These computers can be almost anything. A given office can contain everything from low-cost laptops or Chromebooks to powerful engineering workstations, and in between there are many standard machines for performing routine tasks of accounting, word processing, points of sale, etc. In a wireless network, even a tablet or mobile phone can be considered a workstation.

Often, the most important part of LAN design is the way the workstations of all these users are grouped together. Sometimes it’s as simple as connecting everyone in the same physical space, but what if their needs are different? For example, the basic Wi-Fi signal is suitable for guests and casual users, but engineers or video editors will need the fastest connection you can provide. Organizing users into different subnets where they can share separate resources is often the best option. In this scenario, a group of powerful users scattered across offices on two or three separate floors could share a network that communicates at a rate of several gigabits per second, while everyone around them uses a slower network.
