In the telecommunication
industry, many services rely on sending information through buried cables and
optical fibers. Cable runners are workers who install and repair
telecommunications lines such as fiber optic cables and other cables used to
send television and Internet signals. Workers can get jobs as telecommunication
line installers without formal education, but they will need long-term
on-the-job training and technical instruction.
Income Range
The Bureau of Labor
Statistics groups cable runners under the job category, telecommunication line
installers and repairers. These workers earned an average income of $51,330 a
year of $24.68 an hour as of May 2011. The top 10 percent of workers earned
more than $74,890 a year, while the bottom 10 percent earned less $27,480.
Fifty percent of all workers in the occupation earned between $35,350 and
$67,320 a year.
