Of course, there is a difference between the two approaches, although no two computer experts explain the differences in the same way. One way to understand the difference is to examine two unique words within a noun; that is, "engineer" and "science" (or "scientist"). Naturally, engineers are tasked with developing problem solving solutions or developing efficient systems using existing tools. Additionally, software engineers often find themselves developing new software using existing languages or methods that are already in use. Rather, scientists often improve their research skills and develop (and expand) the boundaries of their assigned field. Therefore, computer scientists can help develop new designs or types of languages that will eventually be used to create software.
