What is a firewall?
A firewall is digitally equivalent to a policeman who corrupts the
boundaries of the network. It can be used to prevent traffic from entering and
leaving the system.
There are several types of firewalls, both hardware, and software.
Operating systems often have a software-based firewall, while the firewall in
the router is hardware-based.
Firewalls help prevent port and Internet-based attacks. Firewalls can
also prevent an infected computer within the network from attacking other
computers by preventing malicious traffic from leaving the network.
